Race for the Cure 2025: the fight against breast cancer returns to Rome
Race for the Cure a Rome
Four days of sport, solidarity, and prevention in the heart of the Eternal City
Race for the Cure, the signature event promoting breast cancer awareness and prevention, is set to return to Rome from May 8 to 11, 2025. The historic Circus Maximus will once again transform into a vibrant hub of solidarity, where thousands will come together to support research and celebrate resilience.
More than just a charity run, Race for the Cure is a powerful symbol of hope, uniting communities in the fight against breast cancer. Every step taken helps fund vital research and support those affected. At the Women’s Health Village, participants will have access to free screenings for underserved women, as well as sports and nutrition workshops, educational talks, and family-friendly activities.
Beyond Rome, Race for the Cure 2025 will make stops in Bari, Bologna, Brescia, Matera, and Naples, spreading its message of awareness and action across Italy. With each passing year, the event continues to grow, turning solidarity into real change and inspiring thousands to take a stand in the fight against breast cancer.
Race for the Cure began in 1983 in Dallas, Texas, thanks to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, established by Nancy Brinker in memory of her sister, Susan Goodman Komen, who lost her life to breast cancer at just 36. Over the years, the foundation has transformed personal loss into a global movement, channeling millions of dollars into research, prevention, and support for women affected by the disease.
In Italy alone, over the past 25 years, more than one million people have taken part in the event, helping to fund over 1,500 prevention and treatment projects. Race for the Cure also enjoys the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, a prestigious recognition that highlights its national significance and the vital role of raising awareness on this critical health issue.
The race route offers participants a breathtaking tour through the heart of Rome. Starting from the Circus Maximus, runners will pass some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Colosseum and the Imperial Forum. Three participation options are available: a 10-kilometer competitive race, a 5-kilometer non-competitive run, and a 2-kilometer walk, open to everyone — including families and children.
What makes Race for the Cure truly special is the presence of the Women in Pink — breast cancer survivors or those currently battling the disease — easily recognized by their signature pink shirts. These women embody resilience, turning their fight into a powerful message of hope and solidarity. Through their presence, they create a network of support, proving that no one has to face this challenge alone. Participating in Race for the Cure is more than just crossing a finish line; it’s a tangible act of solidarity — a way to support research, promote prevention, and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Registration is open to everyone, from children to seniors. You can sign up online at raceforthecure.it, at the Women’s Health Village in the days leading up to the event, or at the Komen Italia offices in Rome. Participants can register individually or as part of a team, involving friends, family, or colleagues in the experience. Those who wish to contribute in a different way can also sign up as volunteers by submitting their application by April.
The registration fee starts at €18 and includes access to all activities at the Health Village, as well as a welcome kit with the official event T-shirt and sponsor-provided gifts. As an added bonus, from May 8-11, 2025, participants can enjoy free entry to Rome’s state museums simply by showing their registration receipt or wearing the official Race for the Cure T-shirt.
The funds raised through Race for the Cure will help Komen Italia implement vital initiatives for women’s health. These include support programs for cancer patients, scholarships for young researchers, and free prevention days for women facing financial hardship.
To accommodate the thousands of participants expected, the race will follow this schedule:
• 10K Competitive Race – Start at 9:30 AM
• 5K Amateur Run – Start at 9:45 AM
• 2K Walk – Start at 10:00 AM
Given the high turnout, early arrival is strongly recommended. While special awards will be given to the top finishers in the competitive race, the real victory lies in the collective impact of every participant’s contribution to the cause. For more details, visit raceforthecure.it and komen.it.
